Gold Price Change Calculator

See how much a gold price increased or decreased between two values. Calculate the rupee change per gram, percentage movement and optional total value change for your gold weight.

Price increasePrice decreasePercentage change
Gold price comparison

Compare two gold prices

Enter an earlier price and a newer price per gram to calculate the rupee and percentage change.

₹/ gram
₹/ gram

Add a weight to estimate how much the value of that quantity changed.

grams

Compare prices using the same unit and comparable gold basis. For example, compare per-gram prices with per-gram prices rather than mixing different units.

Percentage change

+5.00%

Price increased
Change per gram+₹500
Earlier price₹10,000
New price₹10,500

Value change

+₹5,000

Based on 10g of gold.

This calculator measures mathematical price change between two values. It does not predict future gold prices or investment returns.

Rupee change

See the signed difference between the new price and earlier price for each gram.

Percentage change

Measure the price movement relative to the earlier gold price.

Weight impact

Optionally estimate the total value change for a specific quantity of gold.

Formula

How gold price change is calculated

The calculator treats the first value as the earlier price and measures the newer price relative to that starting point.

Price change per gram = New price − Earlier price
Percentage change = ((New price − Earlier price) ÷ Earlier price) × 100
Total value change = Price change per gram × Gold weight

Worked example

₹10,000 → ₹10,500

Earlier price₹10,000/g
New price₹10,500/g
Change per gram+₹500
Percentage change+5.00%
Example weight10g
Total value change+₹5,000

This measures price movement only. It does not represent realised profit after purchase costs, taxes, making charges or resale deductions.

Compare like with like

The arithmetic works with any two positive price values, but the result is meaningful only when the prices are genuinely comparable.

Same unit

Compare per-gram with per-gram, or another consistently matching unit.

Same purity

For gold-market comparisons, use prices based on the same karat or purity.

Same price basis

Avoid mixing unlike retail, reference, exchange or other price bases without understanding the difference.

Same interpretation

A price increase is not automatically the same as your realised investment profit.

Frequently asked questions

Gold price change FAQs

How do I calculate the percentage change in gold price?

Subtract the earlier price from the new price, divide that difference by the earlier price, and multiply by 100. Gold Ledger performs this calculation automatically.

How do I calculate how much gold price increased per gram?

The change per gram is the new price minus the earlier price. A positive result means the price increased, while a negative result means it decreased.

Can this calculator show a decrease in gold price?

Yes. When the new price is below the earlier price, the calculator reports a negative rupee change, a negative percentage change and a downward direction.

What does the optional gold weight do?

If you enter a weight in grams, the calculator multiplies the per-gram price difference by that weight to estimate the total value change for that quantity of gold.

Can I compare today's gold price with an older price?

Yes. Enter the older comparable price as the earlier price and the newer comparable price as the new price. Make sure both prices use the same unit and a comparable gold basis.

Can I compare prices for different gold purities?

The mathematical calculator accepts two price values, but a meaningful comparison should normally use prices based on the same purity, unit and pricing basis.

Does a positive price change mean I earned that amount?

Not necessarily. The result measures mathematical price movement. It does not account for your actual purchase cost, making charges, taxes, transaction costs, resale deductions or other factors.

Does this calculator predict future gold prices?

No. It only compares two prices you enter and does not forecast future gold prices or investment returns.
